Bobocica is a Romanian brand from Galati that does marvelous decorative cutlery for kids: forks, knives, spoons and colorful cups decorated with animals, cartoon characters and imaginative elements, as you can see in these pictures. I contacted the artist for more about what she does in Fimo modelling clay, how and why. See more about customized works, the artist and her shop here.
1. Why did you choose this medium to express yourself?
I always want to try new things and this material allowed me to transform it in every way I could think of, blending colors, adding texture and other things like beads, charms, metallic accessories etc. I like the playful characters, the fact that they are useful and loved by kids. The look in their eyes when they receive these colorful spoons and mugs is priceless.
2. How do you work?
I don’t have a pattern, sketches…only in my head and sometimes on paper if I don’t know the character I must create. It is only in the moment, what it feels right for me to do.
3. What inspires you?
Everything is useful to me, I know it’s a cliché but it’s true, everything surrounding us must be an inspiration for us, it’s what makes us a conscious species.
4. What’s your favorite art work?
I never had a favorite art work and hope I never do, I want more!
5. When and how did you find your style?
In my search for something new I discovered this polymer not so long ago and then, earlier this year I tried to make a unique present and made a mug(my first) decorated with fimo polymer and my expectation was confirmed! It’s working and they like it! I’m not sure I have a style yet, but if there is one, I’m pretty sure it’s playful.
