Last week, I was in Bucharest, the capital of Romania to see my friends there. I met an artist – Dan Munteanu that succeed to make me a nice portrait in paper – meaning, he took a pair of scissors and he actually paper cut my profile in a colorful sheet of paper. I was thrilled and later on, I searched the artist on the internet and keep contact with him. You will see some of his works here and some of his thoughts about creation, animation, working with paper.

The artist told me he is mostly interested in the cutting paper technique that he learned in Chisinau. Apparently it is not a difficult technique if you already know how to draw the human portrait. Dan Munteanu graduated fine art and artistic working of materials faculty at  “Ion Creanga” Pedagogical University in Chisinau, Moldova, then he studied Directing in Tg.Mures and Cluj Napoca ( Romania) and then he learned more about illustration, advertising and animation. His last project is a stop motion animation film and I am sure he will share it with us when finished. As about his inspiration, he appreciates a lot the art of Vermeer of Delft, George Grosz and Alexander Petrov and he feels like in the mood of creating when observing this artist’s works.
